TOLEDO, Ohio – USPTA certified tennis coach, Patrick Giammarco (Perrysburg, Ohio), recently earned Match Analyst certification. The course, offered by Tennis Analytics, is the end-to-end system high-performance coaches use to develop winning strategies and faster improvement for their players.
Patrick’s match analyst certification includes tagging, the process of recording events during a tennis match to collect useful data about the match. Match tagging collects the stats that matter most, and provides the ability to extract reasons a player won or lost the match.

Giammarco comments, “In tennis, good strategy beats good technique every time. Video and match tagging is the future for developing strategy and driving improvement on the court. Many coaches use instinct and gut feeling to create a strategy. Tennis is a game of very small margins, so it’s impossible to identify what leads to winning and losing through observation alone.”
Studies show that coaches are less than 50% accurate in identifying the factors contributing to a win or less. Match tagging is proven to improve player development faster by collecting specific data that players can specifically work on in practice.
